For those who didn't hear about this project (or have forgotten), I bought this 1984 CX650E in '06. It had been used as a field bike by a PO and the fairing and turn signals were pretty much destroyed, the back wheel was bent and the rear end was un-repairable, but it ran and it only had 28000Km on it.

I spent a bunch of time researching and e-mailing a friend in the U.S. who was able to take measurements on several bikes and we figured out which drive train parts can be interchanged between the various CX/GL500/650 models (http://choppercharles.com/cs/forums/7048/ShowPost.aspx), then shipped each other boxes of parts.
Matt & I took it apart and cleaned everything up, and made a trip to the wreckers to get what Rich couldn't send me and I didn't already have.
It looked like this on Sept. 30/06

A week later it went for safety. If the colour looks familiar, that's because it has the tank, side covers, front fender &c from the GL500 I had previously and I didn't have time to re-paint it.

A couple of weeks later the sidecar was on and it was ready for the winter. Note the "snow tires".

I run a lawn tractor battery in a marine battery box mounted beside the topbox. I got the seat changed and the topbox and battery box on before winter set in, but that's about all I did for that year.

Last fall I decided the sidecar cover needed replacing so I took it to a good local boat top guy. When I got it back I decided it needed new paint to go with the the new top.

It's almost time to take it off the road again now and it doesn't look nearly as good now after almost 6 months of winter, although I must say the rain last week really cleaned it up a lot ;-)

You are truly a unique biker, Bob. In many ways, one of a kind.
And lest there be any doubt as to how my comment should be interpreted, it was said with complimentary intention.

Thanks for posting the pics, Bob. You're an inspiration!

One of these days I'm going to arrange my life so that I can tackle projects too. Maybe not sidecars, but who knows?
