OK. I'll ask. When I go to the "edit avatar" function, I do not see an option to enter my own avatar by browsing my own files, etc. Is this option somewhere else? All I see are the generic avatar selections.
Thanks

Only users that have upgraded their accounts to Forum Supporter have the ability to upload a custom avatar. Regular users have to choose their avatar from a list supplied by the forum.

Uwe, I have made a few posts and one thing that seems to be missing is a spell check in the preview post. I know some other sites have this feature, and I think there was some talk on the old forum about the new forum having this capability. Am I just missing it?

There is a spell checker. If you look above the smilies box on the right side of your message window, you'll see an icon with ABC in it. Clicking on that icon will prompt you to download an add-on from another website that will work with your posts. It's a bit of a hassle, but you only have to do it once.
For the record, I just downloaded the add-on and tested it out to make sure that it works. It sets itself up as a separate button on your browser, which actually has another benefit: you can use the spell checker with any other forum you use that doesn't have one. Happy Spelling.

Uwe, there is no "ABC" icon above the smilies box on the right of my message box. I use a Mac iBook, so maybe it has to do with that. Anyway, there is a spellchecker included with Safari, so I will need to use it instead.
Since I did not see a spellcheck button and I remember others commenting on it, I thought I should ask the question.

Ah, that's good to know Malks, thanks. Perhaps Tim and other Apple users can verify they don't see a spell check button over the smilies box either.
Also, in the future if there are other tech issues, please specify what type of computer and browser you're using. Thanks.

Uwe, there have been two times today where I have typed a long post, or took a longer time to finish the post and when I went to preview I got a message that I need to be logged in to make a post. Now I was logged in when I started and the small "Logged in as Malks" was showing at the top right in the post window, but the site gave me the message to log on and presented another log in screen.
Is there a set time out period that only allows a certain period of time to finish a post before it logs out? If not it must be something from this end.

The same thing happened to me today Malks. I know the old forum used to time out, but I'm a little surprised this one does. Have you tried using the "Remember Me" option. I was using it for the several days and didn't have a problem with being timed out of a post, so maybe that's a solution. I'll play around with it and see what I can find out. Thanks.

question poll for Yahoo (or other) users
This is a problem I am having on this site. Might not be the site though. One day (or hour) I may get a notification, but then a day (or hours) later I don't, even though there has been new posts and I am subscribed to the thread.
Is anyone else using a Yahoo email address to receive this forum's generated notification of thread activity? And if so are you getting inconsistent notifications?

There are a few options for notifications. Make sure you have it set for instant notification as opposed to daily. If you have it set for daily it'll will send you one update a day, provided there has been activity in the thread you've subscribed to.

Thanks Uwe, but that is one of the first scenarios I have ruled out as the cause. After a few days we should know if anyone sees this post whether the problem is unique to me and my setup.

Hey Uwe
Can a copy of the navigation bar be added at the bottom of the forum pages?

Once I've been through a page of posts, the scroll back the top is just too much for my mousing finger

Don, try using the "Forum Jump" Go button at the bottom of the thread. It's usually preset to jump you back to the sub-forum that the thread is in. I agree scrolling up is too much work, but the Go button is really fast.
Alternatively, I think you can change the max number of posts in a thread per page in your options. This would make the page a lot shorter, and less work with the mouse wheel to get back to the top.

I tried to "upgrade" to Forum Supporter but when I try to pay using PayPal, nothing happens...
I'm trying this from work so it's possibly the firewalls...

Hi gfab. You just need to check the 'Remember Me' option to prevent that. When you leave, don't 'log out' or you'll have to do all over again on your next visit. Let me know if that doesn't solve the problem you were having.

Welcome to the Forum. You are right there does not seem to be an Introductions area. The other thread "Welcome forum newbies" is not quite an introductions area. Perhaps the new Admin can create one.

New members generally introduce themselves in the "Hello forum newbies" thread.
