Hiyya y'all , I had this idea cooking in my head for some time now and decided that I should share the contents of my brain before the last remaining brain cells I have take a vacation :-)
Oh ya , if this is in the wrong section of the forum , please forum gods , feel free to re-direct it to the proper area .
The idea for a contest I had was like this . Can we have a motorcycle art design contest where the contestants create whatever image they wish ( as long as there is nothing pornographic ) and , it MUST have the obvious , a motorcycle as part of the theme . I can see a section for touring , sport bikes , hawgs or a combination of ideas .
The top ten artists would have thier work published in an edition of Cycle Canada with an article on motorcycle art , and the OVERALL winner would have the use of a bike as a CYCLE CANADA long tern test .
OK , this is just an idea and would love to hear from y' all if this is a good idea , as well as from Cycle Canada as to whether or not this is doable .
OK , OK , I know what y' all are thinking . Y' al think that ok , this spock dude is really in need of a bike and the only way he get one right now is to enter some contest and hopes he wins . Well , ya , that may be true but , since I am an image arts student in university , and because I am cooking up this idea in the hope that I won't be laughed all the way back to Vulcan , I would NOT be a contestant in this contest but would be willing to act as an art judge .
Thoughts ? Ideas ? Referrals for spelling lessons ? Prescriptions for stronger meds ?
Let me know :-)

Stronger meds, I'd say. My recollection says you're a Ryerson student, and I don't recall many of those wannabe punk-rocker artists (not that I'd really put you in that category, but there were always a lot of art poseurs in the photography building in my day) having a proper Georgia peach drawl, y'all.
Interesting idea for a contest though. It might have flown better with Bruce Reeve as editor though. As I recall, he was editing PhotoLife magazine before CC.
As you'd have an unfair advantage, we'll either give you a ten point handicap or limit you to one McDonald's napkin and a small box of crayons.
And don't feel alone. While the left-coasters are doing power-wheelies through crocuses, the rest of the country lives deeply in wannarideitis.

Spocko, some of us are notably without talent at any form of graphic art. If you are gifted in that area, and it seems that you definitely are, we are happy to be your audience. Pictures of bikes are better than no bikes at all.
The use of a bike as a CYCLE CANADA long term test is a beautiful dream. You think of manufacturers, importers and dealers just waiting to supply bikes on long-term loans? No, it is really about 'we will supply a recently introduced bike to you: you let your readers know about it and sell us a whole bunch of copies'. There's nothing much free about it. Quid pro quo. But you can dream.
Meanwhile, it does seem to be about time that you were riding a bike. The money isn't all that hard to get. Figure out a strategy - and you are embarked on one with post-graduate studies - give it your full effort and persist with it. There will be a time in the near future when you will have your choice of bikes.
Don would like to be riding a new bike. But four really nice young kids with all the potential in the world are more important to him. So he rides a beater a couple of decades old and fixes it a lot. Just about everyone who reads this would like to be riding a new Ducati, or something as unreachable, but each one of us has to make choices, and some things (believe it or not) are more imporatnt than bikes.

Hiyya Don , I pretty sure I did mention that as an image arts student at Ryerson , I would NOT be a participant in the contest , if indeed one was to be approved by the Cycle Canada gods As for the punk artist you recall in the Image arts building , well things have changes in there greatly . hey look at me as one example , ( wait , maybe ya shouldn't look at me as the example ) I am a GOTHIC artisit . However , I DO still love the punk scene and am a former punk rocker myself so ya , I get my punkness honestly :-)
Mr. Priest , ya , this being bikeless really sucks badly and ya , cash is easy to get ( well , sort of ) in my case however , it has been made much more difficult as a result of the actions of one person who , among other things , " stole " my bike ( along with many other things ) so right now , I am still just climbing out of the gutter so to speak . Obviously bikes are a huge part of my life , which is why I cooked up this evil idea of a contest around bike related art .
Oh well , it was just an idea :-)

Okay, it's time to give those of us who didn't hear it before, the nickel tour of the loss of your ST
I'm sensing a love triangle gone horribly wrong, but perhaps that's just MY baggage (and No, I won't go there, except to say I got to keep the CT70. Yea.)
Boy + Girl + Bike doesn't always work out, but it's not usually the Boy left by the other two. Musta been some sweet ride.
Of course, this is total presumption on my part.
What DID happen to the ST???

Oh no , there was lots of f..king , just not the kind I envisioned is all but I still got it :-(
Whoa, Don! I don't know what YOUR PM was, but mine was full of juice...
But the REALLY interesting story will come AFTER Spock gets his ST back, whether literally or figuratively. That's the story I want to hear, and the sooner the better.
Go, Spock! Go!
