I would recommend Road Show by Sir Neil Peart. I added the sir part myself.

I second Zen and Now, and the several of Neil Peart's riding books. Long Way Down is a good read. You may also want to go through the adventure touring booklist on the Horizons Unlimited website.

Where around Georgian Bay?

If you want some info from the Bruce Peninsula side of the bay, send me an address. I'm right in the middle of the inbred, meth-lab, grow-op haven.

I agree that Neil Peart's writing is well worth the time and effort. His music never did much for me, but I like his books.

Anyone who wants to understand the physics of riding, whether for road or track, could do worse than "A Twist of the Wrist" by Keith Code.

If you like stories of hand-made technical triumph wrapped in stunningly beautiful design with a bit of family-backed financial ruin thrown in for good measure, see if you can get a copy of Tim Hanna's "John Britten" (ISBN 1-877333-08-5).

Of course, with a new (to you) ride sitting waiting for the next riding season, you could always take it all apart and then get something by Haynes or Clymer in time to have it put back together by spring...

A buddy just let me have a browse through the his Aerostitch catalogue...among the many cool items in it there was an entire section of bike-related reading some I've read and others looked really interesting. If you have acess to one (the catalogue...on line ?) you might want to have a look see.
Speaking about Neil Peart, has anyone read "Ghost Rider"? What did you think, recommended?

It's a good read. It helps if you were a Rush fan in their hey-day, but it's not essential. He was very depressed at the time the book was written, as it followed the deaths of his daughter and wife. In retrospect though, it is almost a more upbeat book than his later writings. He complains an awful lot for a guy making great money, doing a job he loves, and riding a motorcycle everywhere.

And it's a BMW (he left the 916 at home for some reason). Imagine how crabby he would have been on a graphite FJR!

I can. FJR owners can be a bit crabby but I think this stems mainly from continually restraining their urge to unleash all that glorious horsepower.
