For those of you who haven't heard yet, fellow Canuck, former AMA 250 GP champion and current senior editor for Sport Rider Magazine, Andrew Trevitt, was very badly injured in an accident on the Angeles Crest Highway earlier this week.

Man, that sucks. I've never met the guy, but I enjoyed his writings and always thought it was cool to have a Canadian kid behind one of the better american motorcycling mags.

Now, he needs to get a good lawyer and charge the idiot that did the U-turn with attempted murder. ... ok unpremeditated.. so it might be manslaughter. Something drastic has to be done to make people look before doing something stupid. I can hardly wait until auto manufacturers make a vehicle smarter than the driver.

Should I go into my mandatory re-testing of vehicle operating skills rant now? You guys don't need to hear it....

This is always rotten to hear. And might have been very hard to avoid depending on the circumstances. Only Andrew and the asshole likely knows for sure. I try to nver make assumptions anywhere around other vehicles. It can spell you off for awhile, sometimes even years. But when the time has your name on it, well, you bite it. And hope for the best. This is what I hope for Andrew.
I have enjoyed reading many of his pcs. Hope to still.

From Sport Rider website:

While testing tires on Angeles Crest Highway north of Los Angeles, Sport Rider Senior Editor Andrew Trevitt was involved in an accident involving a car making an illegal U-turn. As a result, Andrew is in serious condition in the hospital, with numerous major injuries including fractures to his T3 and T4 vertebrae. Although he currently does not have feeling/movement in his lower body, it is too early to tell what the future will bring. Regardless, Andrew will be facing a lengthy rehabilitation.

Many have asked what they can do, and we greatly appreciate your concern. The family has asked that everyone please respect their privacy, and to not attempt to call or visit the hospital. Get well cards can be sent to the Sport Rider offices at 6420 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90048, and they will be forwarded to the family. If you wish to send Andrew a note, you can do so at getwelltrev@yahoo.com. A fund will soon be set up to assist the Trevitt family; we will be announcing the details on that very soon.

Again, the outpouring of concern is greatly appreciated by all of us in this very difficult time.

Thanks,

Kent
