anyone checking out any of the events across canada that are celbrating the annivesary?
i'm going to Toronto on Sunday at the Distillery, Rides Again is playing so i'm psyched about that....and what else, the bikes!!! they've got some vintage ones on display so that will rock.
there are parties in winnipeg and montreal this weekend...so i suggest anyone to check those out if you're around!

uhmmmmmm, no thanks. Have a great time if you're into that sort of thing though.
And why, exactly, is 105 being considered a notable anniversary?

(Everybody else got a formal welcome, why not you?)
A couple of things you have to know about the gang who hang here:
a) There are some rabid Harley haters here - KZDon is the worst,
b) You are the only one of your gender who has arrived lately; do we now have to watch our language?
c) No marks deducted for spelling, but 'Canada' usually rates a capital.
Have a happy...

Welcome to the forum hun..
Welcome to the forum hun, that would be honey and not RC confusing Bikerlady with Uwe, and count on me love. Hell, Hayabusa didn`t get that sort of welcome.

It's the first Friday of the week...time for mandatory Hardly Ableson bashing...:D

It's notable considering that they haven't updated any of their technology for that long! [Ba Dum Bum]
I'm here all week, try the veal and remember to tip your waitress...:D

Ahhh, I believe that 105 year string was broken when Harley was sold to AMF in the 70s...so they're not that old if you count "consecutive" years.
The cynic in me says she logged on to promote the event, so, whatever.
If I'm wrong, sorry. Like I said, I'm a bit cynical. If the cynical side of me exceeds the thickness of Bikerlady's skin, well, that's too bad.
As for checking out the vintage Harleys, that's what their showrooms are for.
p.s. The Distillery will find a way to circumvent the "free parking for bikes in Toronto" bit, it's all about revenue down there. Not that there's anything unusual about that in this city.
Welcome bikerlady, but watch where you step.
There can be vitriol and invective aplenty around here, but usually it's just pretty hilarious.
Oh, and you should know, the chrome and leather set can sometimes get a pretty rough ride from the regulars, so give 'em back as could as you get, and good on ya.
Not sure what you wear when you ride. But, for around here? You'd better get the full flame suit.....

Oh, can't make it to the 105th. Peter Priest had a 75 birthday that I missed so anything else would just be leftover cake. See ya.
Ok so it was 76th birthday, not 75th.
Can't even give PP his proper due. Now I feel even worse.

Well, that will be a little difficult to follow.
First of all bikerlady, welcome to the site. While Harleys are not my personal favourite, that would not rule out checking out this event. The problem is I do not live close enough to TO to want to ride down there for this sort of thing.
Tim, since the streets surrounding this area are City-owned and have pay-and-display machines, I do not believe that the Distillery folks will be able to have any impact on free bike parking near their site.

In a word NOPE. I mean, even here in Monreal (where apparently there's to be some sort of event??!!). I will pass thanks muchly.
Seems that anytime Harley has an EVENT it just feels like you walked into a large commercial spot. There's more salesmanship/hawking goin' on then celebrating.
What brought the whole Harley thing into sharp focus was when a few years ago at the annual bike show in town we looked around and noticed groups of folks 'glad-handing' each other, renewing friendships and generaly having a fun time. EXCEPT at the Harley display. Folks over that way were just too busy scowling and posturing to do much else. The sales people looked to have practised their intimidation prowess all through the long winter making it impossible to connect with them on any level. I mean, Jesus, if I was in the habit of doing ANYTHING that made me look that pissed off and angry I gotta figure that I'de stop it real quick. Kinda reminds me of enduring something REALLY annoying, but instead of getting up and moving on you just endure it with a scowl 'cuz it might blow your image to do otherwise.
Life's too short. I'll be out riding thanks. Gave up practicing needless consumerism (Oh, honey look at THAT Harley bandana, or THOSE Harley socks....say sweety, did you remember to defrost the Harley steaks?......) some time back.

I am the worst?!? I am so hurt gramps.
My spidey sense tells me bikerlady is a Harleyish employee of some kind tasked to get onto every kind of motorcyle website anywhere and promote the Motor Company events. Their shares are down, you know.

Yeah, it's starting to look like a spammer - first post on the site is to promote and event and then the poster never returns...

Yes, but the upshot all this foolishness is that R.C. has pulled the plug on this forum. I don`t know how many of us saw the post by R.C. last night but if you missed it let me tell you that it was very scathing and was rightfully censored.
I know enough about human nature to know that even though R.C. is madder than a wet hen and has left us he will return and read this post.
Rocking, your not the first to announce your departure from this forum and you won`t be the last but everyone who returns is welcomed back with open arms.
Let me be the first to sincerely ask you to reconsider.

In honor of the big anniversary, I will overfill the crankcase on my TX650 so that it leaves a stain wherever it goes.
PS: I know this is Canuckistan, but I really prefer no censorship. How am I supposed to know who is a flaming idiot & who is just grumpy? Inquiring minds want to know.:mad:

Harleys haven't leaked oil for at least 15 years.
People slag Harleys because they do not understand the bikes and riders. They somehow feel that they are better in some way than Harley riders, which of course is never true.

It's a bit futile to take sides, but I thought that RC was being his old sweet self. (I never saw tha 'scathing' post.) Not to worry, Rocking Couple is a good forgiver.

I don't know how we'd fare without some regulation, bud. I myself would have long since gone hogwild with obscenities, scaring old ladies and toddlers. Please respond to my "What's up, lads" thread, MRN: you have info that I need and you are a good reporter.
The lady and I were out and about yesterday (Sunday). There were Harleys and Harley look-alikes all over the fackin place. Cup-a-gas, cup-a-gas... 'Toy Run' here and 'Toy Run' there, and I was moved to buy a garage sale toy just to maintain my social composure. I wondered, "How do you have fun and still wear a hate face?". It's a puzzle...
All was well, though, in the end. We didn't get mobbed. But had to go home eventually and drink a couple of beers just to get sane again.

Where were you this last 35 years, ax? People HERE understand Harleys all too well. People here are called Harleyphobes-R-us! Metalredneck LIKES Harleys, but he eats spinach and builds his own ratbikes.

I actually had an AMF era Sporty back in the day. The whole poseur scene, whether H/D or whatever is just getting a tad out of hand. I had to wait for a toy run to pass by on Saturday, but at least they had a proper police escort and a parade permit, as the law states they should.
It is tough to justify a parade permit for every Sunday, between every Tim Horton's, tho...

What, exactly, is there to understand? They're friggin' motorcycles and motorcycle owners. I challenge you to explain this thing I apparently don't understand. Aside from a rarified few who own and ride Harleys because of the qualities the motorcycles present - and you may consider the Nicomachean Ethics required reading to attempt to define quality in this regard - keeping in mind motorcycle ownership and choice of motorcycle is rarely, if ever, a rational decision, the remainder of Harley's ridership does so because of how it looks on them.

Right you are Don and there are lots of them out there. Some parked at he donut shop for sure but then just as many loaded up and out touring. Anyone on the highway is going to see Harley riders putting on miles and that could be the reason why they are not here giving us the lowdown on the Harley lifestyle. I don`t get it but hell they can`t all be wrong. Can they?

Maybe they aren't all wrong, but most of them are brain-washed seekers. No different than any other group of wannabes ( be they punk, goth, rat, country, born again, whatever.) Nothing new under the sun, chilluns. Be an individual by being one of the sheeple.
Oh, yeah: BRING MONEY!!!
