I had the pleasure of speaking with my good friend Peter Priest earlier today.

During the conversation I mentioned that I was glad to see him back on the forum - which revealed that I do indeed read the forum without always (or even regularly) posting. (Lurking)

Peter nudged me a bit to leave some indication that I had been around.

I'm always a little hesitant to post just for the sake of posting - I often don't have anything to add or time or whatever. Lame, I know.

I do however enjoy reading most everything on here and especially the great mix of personalities. I'm also grateful for the advice/guidance I've found here whenever I've needed it.

So here's my plan - when I come by, do a little reading and have nothing to add to any other particular thread I'll leave notice by 'registring' my presence with this thread.

Work took too much of a bite out of this summer once again. I did manage to load the family up and travel to Gimli Manitoba this past two weeks though. Beautiful! My wife found us a house to rent right on the beach - much fun was had by all.

Before the leaves change I'll be throwing a leg over my old GS850 Suzuki and making a trip to Lacombe, Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House - looking forward to that I am. I'm almost ashamed to admit that my trip meter on the bike hasn't turned up 250kms yet this year...

Enjoy the rest of the summer everyone!

Take care,
Dan

Hi Dan, it had been so long since I have seen a post from you that I thought you might have had enough of us. Good to know you look in from time to time.

There are many, myself included, who do not post regularly. While I check into this site once or twice a day, I do not post every time I pay a visit.

Well, you damn well should post every time you pay a visit! Your presence here is much appreciated, Malks. Lots of good stuff from you in the past. Maybe you could just say, "Here I am again and I've got a grin on my face..." Everybody needs to be needed.

Dan is putting treasures up for himself - where the moth and the rust do not corrupt - in heaven. Work, work work...

Work is the curse of the drinking classes.

If it was in Gimli, there's a nice lil' race track there as well. It's where I used to go in the late 80's to put some laps in. It's not a track for the big bores, but if you're inclined to race a 500 2 stroke it's damn near perfect. :) It's out by the abandoned air force base and right beside the runway the Gimli Glider used to land.

Well there's a small lake that's about 50 miles wide by 250 miles long. That's just a small fraction of the remaining lakes in the province.
Probably more beaches than Ontario by hundreds.

Probably more beaches than Ontario by hundreds.

Last time I checked there were more than 100,000 lakes (but some Government functionary's definition, not mine) in Ontario. Thas' some serious wetlands, my friend, so you'd be within your rights to say we are all wet...

I've spent some, but not enough, time in Manitoba, and enjoyed every minute of it. I hope to pass that way again someday, on my way to all those other places I've spent too little time in.

I recall an August 1st. weekend festival in Winnipeg ('72?) where they laid sod for several blocks down, um, either Portage or Main, I forget which, and had bands playing at every intersection. It was awesome, man, in the mind of a seventeen year old, anyway, but having to buy our beer out of the back of a hotel was weird. I'm SOO glad my friend (whose name escapes me, but he was from Toronto. Maybe you know him?) didn't die after consuming so much alcohol we put him to bed in the hotel bathtub because it was easier to hose off the vomit that way... Stupid kids! Who knew vomit could turn black from the blood. Alcohol poisoning? Should we call someone? My God we were ignorant shits.

Do they still do that? The festival, I mean?

You summed it up nicely Dan. I do a lot of readin but very little writin, but at least I've been putting in a lot more saddle time then you. You got to work on that fella. I don't get on the internet too often (long story) but when I do I'll try to say a little more in the future.;)
