I'm not sure why Neil felt the need to include the sarcastic caption with the photo on page 40 of the August 2011 issue. His form on the bike looks awesome! Assuming this is typical and not a cherry-picked moment of brilliance, I'd say he may be on his way to becoming one of the fastest moto-journos on the press circuit, in addition to being one of the most literate.

Perhaps, but he still lives in Ontario...:p

Ohhhh...please don't start that western Alien Nation nonsense. I wouldn't have figured you for one of those Geoff.

He's a little late into the Apex, but I wouldn't hold that against him. But as a westerner, I envy those living out East. I can fall asleep on my Ninja driving from Calgary to Edmonton for 30 minutes on QEII highway and never hit the rumble strips. So with all those twisties, maybe Neil can answer - was it just fatigue?
However, BC (in particular the Kootenanny's), is a haven for bike lovers. I can understand Ky's comment. Puts most of Eastern Canada to shame for twisties, maybe even Newfoundland. :)

It was a dig at what seems to me to be a distinct eastern bias at CC. Despite having Steve on board (see, even Steve got his start in Ontario). Nothing serious, though...especially since my trip to NorCal earlier this summer, which makes even the West Kootenays look kinda bland from a riding perspective...

Ebbetts Pass?

When I lived in Georgia I used to ride up through north Georgia and into Tennessee regularly. Cherahola Skyway was a favourite but there were just piles of wonderful roads up there. Never ridden in BC but yes, it would be hard to beat the muontains in the SE US.

Ebbetts Pass?
Yup...along with lots of other roads, both Sierras and coastal...

I Love Sonora the town. The Sonora pass is ok, Carson is ho-hum, but Ebbetts is a downright giggle. People get upset when I say BC roads are just ok but... They've never ridden those, and I've never ridden Europe. There are always better roads just waiting. The coast highway is fine for a while, but when the Harleys and RV's both going slow get too much, it's time to move inland and the sierras are tough to beat.

Yes, there are always gonna be better roads somewhere else...:)
I rode down on the PCH, for the first bit with a friend who lives in Eureka--he was amazed at how lucky we were for traffic, there was NONE! (Indeed, part of my decision to head north through the Sierras was that I expected the PCH to be much busier going back, and I wanted to maintain my memory of it as a traffic-free road...)
