This new format looks great ! I'm sure it will generate more discussions in the future. Congratulations to all that made it possible, and thank you .I know I'll enjoy it more around here.
Dear Uwe,
This is a most encouraging start. The powers that be have selected a well tested forum base, and you've already earned $45 from eager supporters. What's not to like?
Let me remind you that there's an additional $14.99 burning a hole in my pocket for SideCarBob. I'm not quite sure how to set that deal up, but if you can facilitate let me know.

I've noticed that your paragraphs are in order sir.
I guess you could say that you got a good return on your investment. :p
Bob will have to make his own way back to the fold. Peter P. was nice enough to contact him to encourage his return without much success. I believe one unrolled red carpet is enough. I'm more concerned with the rest of the masses that have disappeared over the last several months. None the less, this place will gain momentum and become very busy over time...

Nice job!
vBulletin works great, two other forums I belong to use it as well - fast and easy... (I'll leave that alone - all the rest of you better as well, this new forum is to have none of that sort of talk!)
Uwe - your avatar is from "Waking Ned Devine" no? Great movie that one.
Congratulations on a great start. I'm looking forward to watching this thing flesh out as you guide it along with a steady hand on the tiller.
Go easy though - it's 11:40pm here in the west, that's 1:30am in Toronto and I see you're still logged on.
Take care,
Dan

I will reiterate what Dan said: take it a bit easier on yourself, Uwe.
You have put in a lot of hours on this project in the past few weeks. And a lot of nervous energy. If anything, your presence here right now is a bit much. Having put this new forum nicely into motion, the thing should run itself for a while.
Pour yourself a couple of beers. Take your lady out to lunch. Get a decent night's sleep. We look forward to seeing you, but next week will do.

That gave me a good laugh, but I certainly understood the sentiment. Thanks Peter.
Have no fear, I certainly plan to let this thing run itself and have plans to fade into the background, but not before I know this thing is running well.
I'm waiting for the rest of the old regulars to complete their migration and by then there'll be a solid core of users that are familiar enough with this forum to help the newer users out.
The old forum was never in need of a moderator, and odds are this one won't be too different. In the future most of my energy will be spent at the new Cycle Canada website, and then it'll be business as usual around here.

Hey Peter,
Even if Uwe refuses to take your advice, I must say that your advice could apply to just about anyone on any given day. Count me in for today. Insert dinner instead of lunch. And thanks for the great suggestion.
Wonders never cease! Very nice site. A lot of whinning has gotten us here. John I give my 2 cents later but there will be a lot of opinions on oil use.

HI MY NAME IS JOHN AND THIS IS MY FIRST POST!!!!!!!
Good on ya John, welcome.
I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS THE BEST OIL FOR MY MOTORCYCLE?????
New oil, not that old stuff you use in the lawmower... The 4 stroke stuff is better than 2 stroke 'cause it has more strokes in it. The extra strokes make sure your powerband is nice and tight. Look for oil made from dinosaurs that weren't run down before they died, that way there's extra calories in it to burn off. Vegetarian dinosaurs offer more top end as well, but it's tough to find their oil as they were generally consumed by the meat-eaters. If you can find oil from sources in the late Mesozoic Era you can add 30 or 40 kph to your top end.
ALSO, HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE IT?????
You don't HAVE to change it... just keep adding more. Sidecars, with their extra oil carrying capacity, are perfect for long distance trips
AND IF I CHANGE IT WILL I SCREW UP MY WARRANTY??????
Possibly, but don't worry about it. Manufacturers are extremely reasonable when dealing with warranty claims. Sometimes they'll just give you a new bike if they can't fix problems in the first half hour.
AM I USING ENUFF QUESTION MARKS????????? (!).
Can you ever have enough question marks???????????????????
WHAT'S THE BEST TIRES TO USE??????
Inflated ones. ... it helps if they're round as well.
SHOULD I USE HIGH OCTANE FUEL WHEN MY MOTORCYCLE SAYS THAT I DON'T HAVE TO????
If you use the right oil (see above) the extra octane won't make a spec of difference. If you have to use the normal oil, then go for the highest octane possible. Hang around airports and and look needy... they'll give you gas for cheap.
HOW MUCH MILEGAGE DO YOU GET ON YOUR MOTORCYCLE?????
All of them. More if I haul it in my truck
AM I SHOUTING LOUD ENUFF FOR EVERYBODY TO HEAR ME?????
Barely, maybe if you used a bold as well as ALL CAPS someone else will answer.
SHOULD I RIDE A CRUISER OR A SPORTBIKE?????
Yes, stay away from off-road bikes as you might end up getting lost on some backwoods fire road and eventually being someone's oil in the distant future.
Well, that's done...
John.
I'd say so... welcome

Avatar even works!
I make a motion that Peter gets his two mugs back up.
If you've made the purchase of your Burgman Executive Peter, perhaps a photo of you dragging a knee this summer could become your new Avatar.

Mr. Spock, glad to see you found your way back.
Already its refreshing to post in a new setting.
I love the smell of a new forum when its new .
We just have to make sure eevryone holds on to their bevees when posting because the smell of spillage on the forum carpet will never come out .

If you have any comments, please post them in this thread. Your feedback is of great value to us.
I've heard that before. This time I'm inclined to believe it. Thank you for taking on the job of riding herd over us. I, for one, am so grateful that there is actually someone there that I will promise to try not to make your job any harder than it has to be.
This forum's software (vBulletin) is so close to the same as the phpBB that I have been harping about since the (words that should be censored) previous version of the forum came online as to make no difference. I like it.
my own avatar costs money? on top of my subscription?
I agree. If they can't provide the whole deal for long time subscribers I'll survive with a generic avatar too.
Let me remind you that there's an additional $14.99 burning a hole in my pocket for SideCarBob.
????????????? (did I use enough question marks there?)
Are you implying that I have a price?

The poll at the top of this thread puts me in mind of a pet peeve I've always had about the responders to internet polls where they give you a choice like "No Opinion".
What kind of asshat would actually respond to a poll seriously with "no opinion" ?! Why friggin bother? Probably the kind that talk a lot and don't say anything.
As for the pollster, why give that option? What are they thinkin'?
At least "indifferent" is an opinion and has value. The Toronto Star does that all the time.
Oh, as for this site, the more I learn to use it the more I like it.

what kind of asshat reallycares enough to get annoyed? isn't the whole point of the bulletin board to talk a lot and say nothing?
just asking. i really have no opinion on this matter.
????????????? (did I use enough question marks there?)
Are you implying that I have a price?
Aha! You've been reading old posts! Catching up, eh?
To answer your question, yes, you clearly do have a price, and whoever at LC Media ponied up for this site paid it. There's no harm in that. I'm glad they did, because we all win.
The money I offered was an enticement brazenly posted to lure you back in full force. Did it contribute to your being here? Probably not. If it's no longer necessary, fine, I can retract it. Your being here and talking with us is what I wanted to get out of it, so I'm happy.
But, should you ever get a hankerin' for a spiffy new Avatar (maybe a new hack, or a favourite model train, or a schmaltzy photo of you and a significant other...) let me know, it's still my treat. If you've got a birthday coming up sometime in the next year, we could hide it in that. Let me know!

Hey Metalredneck, I'm not annoyed, I'm not an asshat, I didn't mean in reference to this bulletin board, and this place is much more than just a place to yack. But thanks for your graceless response.

I like it.
It's the same format that other forums use and for a computer moron like myself, it makes it easy to navigate.
I still can't understand why CMG has left their format the way it is. I can't stand it.
