In the story of the group ride in the Nov issue, there's a line that says something like "we rode toward Parry Sound...where the rally created by CC started". I thought Mike Maloney started the rally around 1983 with a bunch of buddies?

They figured PS was as good as place as any to hold it, I forget the details but I read a story on it long ago, now the rally site forum is dead so I can't ask anyone there. Except for the old site which is actually used more than the new one

I know there's alot of speculation on this, maybe someone from CC can confirm. My first time at the rally was in 2002, and it was great.

I stand to be corrected here, but my understanding of the Parry Sound Sportbike Rally is that it had its roots in the Cycle Canada Rally that used to congregate every year on Manitoulin Island back in the late 80's and 90's.

My wife and took our first motorcycle camping tour there way-back-when; she even managed to knock over my heavily laden CB 900F Supersport at a gas station on our way back home from the island. It took me about a month to forgive her.

For one reason or another (lack of attendance / too many burnouts performed on picnic benches) the CC Rally on Manitoulin folded and a few years later the Sportbike Rally was born. CC ran the SBR for a few years I think but then it was 'privatized' by Mike Maloney before being taken over by the town of Parry Sound?

Or not....

I remember going to Jasper in the mid to late 90s to a rally that started out as a Cycle Canada Rally.
