I am a very satisfied 58 year old owner of a 2009 vrod. I don't consider myself a stereotypical Harley owner but I do own a couple of HD sweatshirts. The bike has exceeded all of my expectations but there is a curiosity as to how it would fare against other motorcycles of it's class. Unfortunately there is a dearth :confused:of information in any of the magazines w.r.t vrods.

When they first came out, there was LOTS of media coverage, but over the years they haven't really taken off like maybe the Motor Company might have liked them to.

A few years ago, when they were current, I demo'd a Street Rod--loved the engine, but found the bike kinda like riding a freight train (pulls like a locomotive, but not really a corner carver...)

I think they'd compare to yamaha's warrior, triumphs rocket, suzuki's m109. Honda's Furry really isn't the same power cruiser, I'm not sure what they have now that the Rune is gone. Kawi's Mean streak, maybe. Could be a good article, but they are all old news, with not much changing recently.

I couldnt see myself riding a cruiser, but I did test a Street Rod after riding my TL to the dealership and was suprised how similar the engines are. Of course the chassis are very dis-similar but I did like the bike and am sorry H-D stopped making them.

Harley can't sell an Un-Harley to anyone, the faithful don't like it and the metric riders won't pay the price HD wants for them. Too bad, with porsche and cosworth in on the engine it can't be all bad.

Yup, then Buell just gets close to hitting their stride with the Rotax, and the MoCo shuts 'em down...

:rolleyes:Again this is just my opinion but the vrod is the best HD made as an all round bike. Changing it for changes sake would be pointless, so I'm hoping that some magazine would take the time to review it in a comparson with these newer power cruisers.

Try a google search on "Harley V Rod comparison" - lots of hits, including this one that included a Honda Valkyrie and a V Max. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/performance_cruiser_comparison/index.html. You'll be happy to know the testers liked the V Rod best.

I've always liked the V-Rod, and agree it's the most attractive HD product. I would certainly make room for one in my ultimate garage. Against the Valkyrie or V Max it would be no contest.

Some day...
